Weird card problems? - 12-11-2009, 02:12 PM

A little long and confusing, but bear with me.

I have a little Nikon Coolpix L18 p&s that I carry around. I took a few photos with it yesterday. Everything seemed fine. My wife even showed me a few photos on the camera several hours later that she wanted me to print out. Now this morning when I went to do that, I noticed the last few pics that I took were gone. Not only that, one of the others preceding those that I took last week was moved to a weird, out of order place on the card, not in sequence. Another pic that I took during that time has also disappeared.

I also want to add that I dropped the camera BEFORE I took those pics last week. They were on the card until this morning as well.

It gets weirder...I took a few test pics this morning...the card then said "memory full" I looked at the pics I took THE PICS THAT HAD DISAPPEARED SHOWED UP AGAIN!! So I hooked the cam up to the computer and they were gone again!

I have a card recovery program but I was unable to find the pics on there. Any ideas? I need to find the pics that I took yesterday because it's a photo of a friend of my wife that she wants to print out for her.

Btw, the card in question is a Polaroid 8gb sd card that worked fine up until this point.

Thanks

Sure you aren't on the internal memory?

Good question. I'm not at home now so I'll have to check later, I didn't know it had internal memory though. If it did, maybe the drop knocked it into that mode?

have you removed and connected the memory card directly via USB card reader, etc to the computer, without going thru the camera?

Aha...you were right! I got home, left the card out of the camera and turned it on and the pics are there. Now I have to figure out how to get them downloaded. The computer is not seeing the camera.

It came up using iPhoto. Speaking of wives, mine will be very happy I save the photo. Now I have to figure out why it saved it to the internal card and not the sd card.

My guess is that the drop jarred the card loose and when you turned it on the camera defaulted to the internal memory.

Take the card out and reinsert. Then go into the menu and select the card as memory source.
