24mm F1.4L II wide open shots - 12-26-2009, 10:54 AM

A few snaps from the holiday with the mighty 24L II pairing up 5dm2. The goal was testing out the wide open capability. Everything is straight out from the Raw with little and no processing. The detail, color, bokeh, contrast and lack of CA at wide open are simply amazing!!! For two stops, i would give up 16-35 in a heart beat.

iso range from 640-1600, all taken at 1.4

Whatever that food is I want some, it looks delicious. That lens looks like a keeper, wish I could afford some more L primes.

Used to have the 35L but couldn't stand the excessive CA and eventually has to let it go. Both are tack sharp wide open but the 24L II is just a hair better in color department, then again, it's few hundreds $ more if not wider. I wish there's Nikon equivalent of 14-24mm on canon side, i would consider giving up the 1.4 fast wide angle goodness.

What's a few hundred bucks between friends. Here are the B&H prices as of this morning:

24 f/1.4 II: $1,699
35 f/1.4: $1,369

For the super wide-eyed:

14 f/2.8 II: $2,100

Canon's prices seemed to bump up just a hair since the last time I checked some of them. Not surprising, just disappointing!
