Obviously I would never need one but there are people who probably do need or want something like this.

I never looked at fast memory cards until I got a DSLR, now I can see why people need / want them. I can't believe they want to stick SSD's into cameras! The size is just too large. I figure it would take more power to run as well too.

Now we'll all have to go out and buy new bodies that will handle the cards. At least this means I can get a 5d2 for a few hundred in the next year or two.

So where do you put the files after you fill it up?

8 DVDR-DLs full of photos from each card could get kinda unwieldy after a while. OTOH, maybe Smugmug could come up with an "upload via FedEx" option.

That's too many eggs in one basket for me. If the card goes bad you loose all your pics.
I like to use multiple smaller size cards just in case.

These cards are not to put all your eggs in one basket so to speak... these are targeted to the pro video market where hd cameras are starting to use sd cards. Also as hddslr's become more popular they will need bigger cards just to hold the any useable length of video.

I remember another photographer telling me that when I shelled out $150 for a 1GIG 80x Lexar CF card.

Good point. I wasn't paying attention to the cost of those puppies. Of course, the price will come down. Still, I am curious about the archival nature of SD cards. It might end up being a practical form of storage at some point in the future.
