White Balance / Color Checker - 01-23-2010, 02:22 PM

I'm trying to compare the BalanceSmarter white card and the McBeth Color Checker and I'm getting nowhere. It's been a learning experience, but they both seem equally useful. The color checker was mentioned in terms of it's use for video, but I see no reason why it won't work with stills. The BalanceSmarter white card simply seems good in it's own right.
Does any have any experience with either or with similar devices that they would be willing to share?

Color Checker works great with stills. Check the x-rite site for some videos on its use.

Sorry I'm new, so the Whibal is just a grey card that you use to adjust white balance?

WhiBal looks like the one for me. It works and is handy enough to carry so I'll use it when I need to.
Thanks again.

Color Checker is for more than just white-balance, you can also use it for color correction and profiling. The new Passport version is designed with portability and durability in mind.

even better than a white balance card (much more functional, and easily fits in any pocket or your waist band, or hang it from your camera strap)

Microstar | Micro-Fiber 18% Gray Lens Cleaning Cloth | 81012

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

If I understand what I have read correctly, color checking is for post processing, and a white balance card is for pre-exposure adjustments in the camera. Is that right?
