Leica Lens Compendium now free to download - 02-09-2010, 06:24 PM

Erwin Puts has resolved his rights issue now with bankrupt Hove Publishing and now has it up as a free download. It has been out of print for several years and selling for over a 100 dollars on the used market.

This covers all Leica lenses up to the late '90.

If you are looking at used Leica lenses, this is a must have work. It also has production data which will allow you to date the production of it.

For anyone not concerned with Leica lenses, a quick look at this compendium reveals a wealth of information of lens design in general as well as optical problems that lens elements have to overcome.

Looks to be a very valuable resource!

Very, very useful for anyone shopping for a Leica lens. 220+ pages of info.

I think the new edition will be even more value as it will update the lenses and include bodies. The only evaluation of bodies I know of currently is on CameraQuest and is rather weak.

I do expect Erwin to charge a fee for the new edition but it will be worth it.

Thanks for posting. I already had a copy of the Compendium but did not know about the Pocket Booklet with its handy lists - very useful.
