I just got an Epson 4490 and it's working quite well. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it's working well for me.

Side note, if you're trying to scan a long strip of film DO NOT cover up the three little holes on the film holder. Drove me nuts trying to figure out why some scans would work and some wouldn't. Found that little morsel of info in a flickr discussion, no where was it mentioned in the manual or a warning printed on the holder.

I like my Canon 8800F. Even comes with trays for 35mm negs, slides, and 120 (I think).

How about the Epson V500? It sells for $187 or so and it does up to 4x5 negatives or slides. May noy be top of the line, but should be fine.

Nope. Tiny film scanning area.

Quote:
Transparency Unit

•35mm Transparency Adapter
•12 negatives/4 slides
•medium-format film (6 x 12 cm)
By comparison, I bought an Epson Perfection 1680 for $150 plus $75 shipping. It scans 24 35mm negatives, 15 mounted slides, 9 6x6, 4 4x5 or 1 8x10.
