Update,
Got a call from contact at PC. The techs can't get the camera to malfunction go figure lol. But they did see all of the errors when they hooked it up to the computer so they no I am not crazy (at least about this lol). So we agreed they will send out camera to me on monday overnight after checking all connections one last time. And if I have a problem with it when it gets back I am to send all equipment in that the camera errors with and they will take care of it.
And on an even better note they are willing to take care of my 7D too WOOHOO. Wish I had known about this contact 2 years ago when I got the 7D back still back focusing.
I am so excited :D

You're going to hate me for saying this...but what i have learned from this thread and my personal dealings with Precision Camera...

Dont buy a Sony.

Not being able to send a camera directly to the manufacturer is lame. Nikon or Canon if you want a DSLR. Send it back to them directly and problems usually get resolved. Dealing with third parties is always going to bring in extra head aches.

Your location says Norfolk VA. You have to mail the camera to Texas to get it fixed?

Ive never had a service problem with Precision Camera. They're always super helpful and very nice to deal with. It doesnt matter what business you deal with... you attract more flies with sugar rather than salt. There's never a need to go ballistic on someone.
Having worked in the service field of electronics, everyone's problem is the worst, and it needed to be repaired yesterday.
If your work is your livelihood and you are a professional, then you have a back up camera for when Acts of God strike.

Sucks that your equipment isn't working correctly, but it sounds like the issues are getting addressed one way or another. Good luck with the repairs.

Daniel I do have a back up.
NO I do not mail the camera to TX I mail it to CT. Except this time I took it in to BB. Not getting into the Nikon/Cannon deal. I am not sure if I could have sent the camera to Sony or not because it is under BB's warranty not Sony's. And it wouldn't be in the shop if I hadn't dropped it. Then it wouldn't matter the brand.
As for going Ballistic on people I am and can be nice to people until you either A screw me over or B make out like I am stupid then I will treat you the same way.
As for something needing to be repaired yesterday. I was VERY nice the first time. I was pissed when the camera came back NOT FIXED, as would most people. Thankfully it is being resolved. Waiting my turn doesn't bother me it is when I wait my turn and it still isn't fixed. And luckily I got the contact info and didn't have to be mean to anyone :D So all is good atleast for now. Hopefully it will be way better when the Sony comes back fixed.

The A700 is back and working beautifully thank goodness. Took it to the Poconos this week and got a few shots of the water falls and a couple of bridges that was about it though. DH apparently fractured or broke a rib so he just wanted to get home. Now he is stalling on going to the hospital since they have no apts at the clinic. Will update when I get the 7D back.

I was going to say YAY! but then read the broken rib part.

I am very glad to hear the A700 is back up and running!

Thanks keith.
I am so glad it is back and working.
As for dh he finally left for the ER. Not that they will do anything but it will be documented I guess. They couldn't seem him at the clinic until later this week but they are heading out to sea so that doesn't work lol. I hope to get a few posted here in a bit.

Breezy,
Is Strauss PhotoTechnical still open in Norfolk? They used to be THE camera repair place in Tidewater but that was before Digital. They may have closed up shop now. Might be something to check out for the future. I think they used to be on W 21st St in Norfolk....

The Precision Camera that handles warranty on Minolta and Sony is in CT. No relation to Precision in Austin.

I've never heard of a warranty that covered damage from the owner dropping the camera unless you bought it at Best Buy with their extended warranty.

I just found this thread and I know exactly what you went thru with your A700. I had the Sony A500 for about two months. It locked up on me several times like this, very frustrating. When I took it in for repair they claimed they couldn't get it to reinact the problem either. So I left thinking I was an idiot and then the next day it happened again. Working just fine, in perfect daylight, and then poof....nothing. Luckily they took it back this time! I will never buy another Sony camera again! If I were you I would sell it now and get something you can rely on. (I agree with Jack, buy Nikon, thats what I did.) If not, I hope they fixed the problem!!!
