Reflector + Tripod? - 02-24-2010, 10:16 AM

I'm looking for a reflector I can use anywhere outdoors without someone holding iit and I don't want to carry too much equipment like light stands etc.
Does anyone know a reflector I might use with a regular tripod?
Any recommendations?

Amazon.com: LiteDisc Holder: Electronics

you can attach it to a tripod with an adapter.

Amazon.com: Lastolite LL LR3696 33-Inch TriFlip Kit: Electronics

Lastolite Tri-Grip is amazing. It can be a white/silver/gold reflector, a flag, a diffuser and it stays in shape and folds up easily. All you need is a tripod and an A-clamp if you don't have a voice-activated light stand.

I am not sure if this happens to everyone, but every time I've tried the outdoor+reflector+tripod combination, it has failed hilariously. Gotta love wind...

I made an adapter out of an aluminum rod, and aluminum L-bracket, some small machine screws, and a couple of aluminum clamps. I got all the parts at Lowe's for <$20. It took me a half an hour with a drill and a tap/die set to create the holes for the screws. The rod I chose fits into the (umbrella) hole of a common light stand cold shoe. YMMV

edit: I have not tried this outside due to the ever present effects of wind.

Wind is an issue, for sure. Wonder if even sandbags to weight the stand/tripod down would counter that much "sail" area in a stiff breeze.

I have a homemade 12"X12"... I use it more for holding plants that are in a windy area.I have seen other folks use them with reflectors and flash units. I carry it in the field every trip.
