So disappointing! Not that any of the 1Ds cameras have had frame rates to keep up when a burst is needed anyway. Wonder how the IQ compares with the 1D Mark IV vs. the 5D2? I'm not seriously wondering, as both are beyond justification for me just yet.

Yea.. IQ is essentially the most important issue for me, which means the 5D2 should be a no brainer for me...
I just wish Canon would put some of the less expensive camera features into the 5D series... I thought they wanted it to be that going from the 10/20/30/40/50/7D series to the 5D series to be an UPGRADE... so why handicap things like the frame rate? That makes no sense to me.
Oh well, the frame rate is only important to me maybe one in 30 times I shoot.. so that's not a big factor.

I imagine putting a better frame rate than 4fps would require a much bigger buffer for those 30MB files, which costs quite a bit more.
Plus, the 5D2 is holed in as a portrait/landscape/wedding camera. For that type of stuff, why do you need more than 4 fps?
As it is with the 5D2, if I have the strong noise reduction on, I only get 5 frames before the buffer is full on a UDMA card.

If you are mainly interested in portraits, I don't think the 7D is going to offer you much that your 50D doesn't offer you.
The 7D is very capable for portraits, but the 5D2 and the 1DsMark3 are the kings of portrait photography for Canon.
Unless you are shooting fast action, I wouldn't upgrade from the 50D to the 7D. I would spend the money on lenses or hold on to that money and save up for the 5D mark II.

I used to use motor drive, but I have moved to single shot for those things.
Usually a shot on the pre-release.
Fire once in the air.
Fire once as it is about to get to the women/men.
Then mash it in case funny things happen. But I get the shot by shooting, not mashing.

As do I, but "mashing it" gives you a better chance at getting that shot in case "funny stuff happens." Having the higher fps makes it easier to get that kind of shot.

And I used to do that for the tosses, but even with my faster cameras, I trust my ability to time the shot over mashing the shutter button and hoping the motor drive hits the right spot.
