We have several of the Digi-Magic DM220's at work and I have one at home. The USA distributer is out of El Paso. The newer versions 4.1 or better are great.

We've been using them for over a year now. It downloads the CF card to a CD/DVD. You can add to a disc. Can be run on batteries.

A newer version has a viewing screen.

The Asus Eee 1005PE is a pretty decent netbook -- especially after upgrading to 2GB RAM, using a spare Windows 7 Pro 32-bit license to do the Windows Anytime Upgrade, and using a spare SanDisk Extreme III 8GB SDHC card to leave in and use for ReadyBoost.

Now I just need a CF card reader that WORKS.

Now that we are starting to see (or have seen for a few years if you're a Canon shooter) video on our DSLRs, what are the options for backing up the video files as well as the photos? I was considering the HyperDrive Album that Abel has after seeing it recently but it appears that it does not handle video.

Anyone?

So far, I've been really happy with the ASUS Eee as a storage device. I only have the two 8GB CF cards, so it's not being used for backup, so much as to free up the cards for continued use. On a recent vacation, I took about 64GB of photos, and on a cost basis, the netbook was cheaper than buying all the CF cards would have been.

Scott,

That is a great alternative. Thank you for mentioning it!

The Memory Reader drives are just that, readers, some will display images. If you're wanting to view your video on such a device, a laptop or possibly iPad would fit the bill.

iPad has a maximum of 64GB memory. That's pretty constraining, unless it can connect to an external hard drive.

I think I will remove LightRoom from the netbook -- it's too slow, and the screen is too small.

I installed FastPictureViewer on it, and I can see the CR2 files as i would JPEGs, so that gives me the ability to see the photos clearly enough to eliminate the bad ones, and to run a slide show of the day's captures.

I also installed Sandisk RescuePRO in case i ever have a CF card go bad on me.

Take my HP Mini along with me when I need small, it's only 60GB, but it's strickly store and view... if I want more space & grab a portable HD, 80GB or 160GB... but if I'm going to be away for any length of time, my laptop is going to be somewhere close by, 250GB, Lightroom & various toys... and if I want to run real light, a pocket full of CF cards.

We've been looking into a CF backup solution lately too. I love the HP, but at $700 it's about as economical as buying a mid-range laptop.

I love the look of the Archos media players, and had one of the very first ones they released (probably 7 years ago), so I'm thinking of getting a newer one like this:

http://http://www.amazon.com/Archos-...206141&sr=1-28

But does anybody know if there is a way to hook up a CF card to this? And can it store (even if it doesn't display) and transfer RAW files? (The original Archos I had back in the day had a CF card slot, but the new ones don't).

Also, can someone explain to me what the Hyperdrive Album is? And what kind of hard drive does it take?

Thanks,
Matt
