Canon T50 Worth on the Market - 03-20-2010, 09:09 PM

My buddy has a Canon T50 35mm SLR camera. With the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens. He also has a 18-200mm f4.0 zoom lens. I'm not sure of the make. Looks like it came as a kit.

He has a Canon XS (1000D) right now and is looking to trade these lens and camera for lenses for his 1000D that he could use down the road on a 400D or something.

I don't know Canon SLRs, much lens the 35mm and the glass. I was thinking maybe there was an adapter that could make these lenses useable on his XS, but I don't know.

He's interested in selling the kit for money or trading, but I'm thinking he can use them on his XS.

Anyone have input on the $$$ worth of this camera and glass?

Anyone know if he can use them on his XS?

Any valid and relevant information would be appreciated!

Have you checked ebay?
Probably not worth much. Not the news he would want to hear. When I sold my A-1 and true motor drive a few years ago, I got less than $200 for both. It hurt my pride. That was a great camera.

I checked, I wasn't impressed.

Which is why I quickly formulated the hope that there was at least a way to use the old glass.

Check KEH for pricing.

His would be worth ~75% of KEH price on the open market.

As far as using FD glass on a EF camera. The short answer is no.

The long answer is it can be done but it is not worth it.

Canon FD to EOS lens adapters

Or use them on a micro 4/3 body with an simple adapter.

I don't know about the T50, but my vintage 1996 Canon Elan II 35 mm camera (which uses the same lens mount as today's Canon digital SLRs) goes for about $50. Maybe your friend could donate his kit to a student taking a photography class.
