D300 problems - 04-06-2010, 08:21 PM

When I first got my Nikon d300 the picture on the LCD and what I downloaded to the computer looked the same. Now when I download them to the computer they look completely different they have a reddish yellow tint to them and I know the first thing you would think would be that my computer was jacked up but i've tried it on both of my computers and my wide screen tv that i have always displayed on for clients. Any thoughts on what it might be is appreciated.

Are your monitors calibrated, using an external device? If not, the conversation stops right here, until you do get them calibrated.

Im not sure what you mean but I dont see how 3 monitors could be off exactly the same way at the same time also all my printing matches the monitors.

Eric...three things come to mind...do you have a custom WB set-up...two are you shooting RAW...and if you are...are you using a Nikon converter or a generic...

If both of these are ok...then what I would tell you to do is a reset on the camera...hold down the two buttons on top of the camera marked by green dots for 5 seconds....then take out the battery do it again...then plug it up...and everything should be reset to factory settings....good thing the camera will function like you first took it out of the box..the bad thing is you loose any of your presets....so make sure you know your resets....

Good Luck...

What version of Windows do you have? It is known to install a monitor color profile that does exactly what you described.

on desktop, right click and select properties or go into the control panel and select color mangement
click on display tab
does it say color or color profile or color settings? click on that
there will be a box that has the current color profile.....change it to Srgb 1.203493840938 (something like that) and make it default.
that should fix your problem

If you tell me your OS, I will give you exact instructions. I am almost positive I know the issue.

For XP:
Microsoft Corporation

For Vista/Win7
Change color management settings

I can almost bet that this is your issue.

Does the fact that there are three different (and independent) computers affected change the diagnosis? I'm just thinking out loud here... Well technically I guess I'm thinking in text.

No because windows loads the monitor color profile and not the SRGB profile.

Could be the old Adobe RGB vs. sRGB issue. Which is your camera set to? Post an image here, and we can check EXIF.
Only a few browsers (like Safari) reproduce Adobe RGB correctly on Windows machines.

Guys thanks so much for all the help. I can tell that I have asked a question of which I can't understand the answer. I'm still trying to learn so much. I'm going to have to take the camera and computers to a friend that can walk me through this.
