Then you're not reading the right things. It gets great reviews in most professional review sources (magazine, Internest sites, etc). Many folks have bought them, including me and have had no issues at all. It is right up there with the 5D MK II depending on whether or not your want/need a full frame or crop sensor. Great AF, metering, customization, weather sealing, ISO performance, FPS, and the list goes on.

Randy | Not sure you are reading the right things. The 7D is a fantastic camera.
What reviews have you seen that are bad?
And no one will know that a new camera is coming out until Canon or Nikon announces it. They are very tight lipped about new products. Everything you read is just conjecture.

I love my 7D. While I have read user posts who had issues, I've read a lot more good than bad. And reviews are very good.
+1 on the above. | | | |

I would not hold my breath waiting for Canon, or Nikon, to release a bad camera. Ain't gonna happen! Some models have more capabilities than other models, but none of the models are bad models.
Nobody that actually knows anything about the release of new models is going to tell you anything! They've all signed NDAs, period. Those folks that will tell you don't really know anything for sure, it's just a WAG on their part. My strong recommendation is that if you want/need a camera now, buy it now, as there is no end to waiting for the latest and greatest model to be released. No matter when you buy a camera, at some point it will be eclipsed by yet another model. That fact will not have any effect on the continued operation of the model that you already own when yet another model is released.
Make a decision. | | | |

A killer camera, of course, after the fix, though.
You can read a bad review about any number of things, but the test comes in use. You can never tell how much experience a reviewer has just by reading, and so many times a decent piece of equipment is slammed because of a failing in the photographer rather than the tool. No camera is perfect, but the 7D by all accounts from people I know and trust say that it's in a league by itself. | | | |

A lot of folks wont buy new models until the models have had enough time in the field to reveal, and resolve those issues.
Granted, user error is often at the bottom of problems. That is what makes forums like this so valuable, we can all pick the collective brain in search of a resolution. | | | |

I have been wondering where Canon is going with there product line. The 1D's are not going away and the Rebel series I am sure are here to stay. The part I am unsure about is the xxD and the 5/7D. To me the 5/7D are little 1D's. They have the full frame and the crop sensor (fast shooting) covered with those two models and both at a very good price point for the advance hobbyist. With the xxD being a very good deal for the money if the sale of them vs the Rebel and 5/7D stays strong I see them keeping the line around.
Mostly because someone getting into the hobby going from a Rebel to 5/7D is a huge jump in price. It is easier for someone to go from the Rebel to the xxD to the 5/7D.
I have the 7D and it is really the first digital camera I have been completely happy with. In my film days I shot an EOS 1V and going from that to the 10D was a huge disappointment feature wise. But I could not and still can't afford a 1D. The metering/focusing of the 7D along with other abilities are very good, not as refined as the 1D but pretty damn close and I am finally happy with a DSLR.

I've had my 7D for about a month. I can say it's the best camera I've ever owned. You'd have to pry it from my cold, dead, fingers to get it away from me. (For full disclosure, I've never owned a 1D series or 5D series body.) I agree with Ronnie! | | | |

From where im standing, it looks like this:
NIKON / CANON
-----------------
D3000 / Rebel XS
D5000 / Rebel T1i/T2i
D90 / ??? (maybe the T2i should be here, idk)
-----------------
??? / 50D
D300s / 7D
-----------------
D700 / 5D MkII
D3s / 1D Mk IV
D3x / 1Ds Mk III
I think what throws people off is that Nikon charges about the same for the D90 as Canon does for the 50D. But in my opinion they are not in the same bracket. The 50D is a WAY better camera, closer to the D300.
Nikon needs to get with the program and make the D90 replacement out of metal, give it more FPS, and keep it in that $1000 price bracket. | | | |

Randy | If you want it, get it and shoot the heck out of it.
I bought a 7D to backup the 1D MK III while shooting sports. I made a few adjustments similar to the MK III and the camera is working just great.
An example would be the pics in my Smugmug gallery of the NHRA Spring Nationals held recently in Baytown. All of the racing pics were shot using the 70-200 f/2.8. Pics shot in the pits were captured using either a 17-40 f/4 or 24-70 f/2.8. They look pretty good to me.
Last weekend I shot almost 4000 pics using the 7D and 70-200 at a state softball tournament. I got some good shots from those games as well including burst sequences of plays at second base and home plate.
Hope this info is helpful.

I would love to know the real world bad things about the 7d?
I own a 40d, 50d, and 7d and hands down no question about it, for what I shoot, the 7d is amazing.
The 1d series are awesome in their own right, but at the price point of 1700, the 7d is hard to beat.

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

If I had the money I would so switch to Canon and shoot with a 7D and a 50mm 1.4, or if money was no object the 50L. Oh well, maybe one day when im rich. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
