Image size is what I'm talking about (megapixels).
The file size is smaller also but I expect that going from raw to jpg.

Basically the jpg(image size) that gets converted from my raw file is much smaller than the jpg file the camera produces in jpg (Fine,Large) mode which is 4288 x 2848. I'm not sure what size it's making the image but I'll check and play more over the weekend since I doubt I'll have much time tonight.

RAW: 4828 x 2848
JPG: 4828 x 2848
Program used to convert: ViewNX but looks very grainy now like a ton of noise was introduced.

JPG: 1600 x 1062
Program used to convert: IrfanView for some reason even though I said best.

Very odd.
If we were closer I'd offer to meet up at a starbucks or something so we could see what's going on.
Even as basic as ViewNX is, it should be giving you good results when converting RAW to JPEG. I use it when I'm traveling and need to do quick developments, so I know its able.

Dig into to the Irfanview setttings. For some reason it's changing the resolution.

Another reason for avoiding jpeg and low end converters is you should be doing you conversions in the ProPhoto RGB color space.
