D-90/MB-D80 problem - 05-15-2010, 10:30 AM

Hi, I am having a problem with my new battery pack not seating properly in my camera. Shows low battery when tightened, will show normal operation if loosened and moved some. Yes batteries are charged, the en-el3e.
I did try to buy first at HCE, but they have been out, trip starting in two days so yes I bought online and can't go back to store.

Any help??

Novice Tom.

I recommend you take it into a pro shop and have them check it out.
I've had a similar problem with my 1Ds MkII when buying an off brand
battery.
There is one shop on Richmond near HCE that makes repairs and they
are very helpful. Professional something or other... Can't remember the
name.

Here it is:
Professional Camera Repair
4410 Richmond Avenue
Houston TX 77027

Have you tried it with the AA battery pack inserted? Do you have the same issues then?

I have the same set up, but am using OEM batteries, and have had no problems in over a year.

And in the FWIW department. I bought the battery grip and extra battery for a trip to Scotland last year, I took a couple of thousand captures, and did not exhaust battery #1, and still had 100% left showing on Battery #2 on the battery status screen when I was packing up to go home 8 days latter. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. I played with the part that inserts into the camera after noticing the three terminals that do the power were not even in the grips housing. The plastic housing was slightly tweaked? I popped it back together like it should be and works fine now. Just enough to be mis-aligned I guess. And yes, Nikon batteries.
Trip to Yellowstone next week is saved.
Thanks all.
Tom.

Just an FYI
With my D200 using the same batteries.
I can shoot a race to about 4K pics and only go thru one battery but always have plenty left in the #2 batt.

Battery Pack D-90 - 07-02-2010, 02:50 AM

Look where the three fingers in the camera are making contact on the battery pack. The middle finger is not making proper contact. I bent the middle finger a little, now everything is fine. However Nikon does not recommend this.

Yes, the problem was in the three/main contact area. The case was slightly mis-aligned and not making good contact. I was spooked because I read a couple of reviews that had a similar issue. All is good.
