check out Firefold.com, they're usually cheaper and will price match against monoprice. I've used them and had great results.

I've bought a few things at Frys, including the Macbook laptop I'm currently using - it was one of their "loaner" models, and was running Tiger when I bought it 2.5 years ago. The only thing "wrong" with it was a small crack at the top of the screen that I don't even notice unless the light hits it just right. I paid less than $800 for it.

I upgraded the RAM & the OS (it's now running Leopard) on my own, and just this year (after 2 yrs of steady use by me), I had to replace the hard drive, but that's been about it.

Back to cameras @ Fry's ... I didn't buy from them, but when I was deciding on my camera, I did go in, ignore the sales clerks, and played with the cameras on my own. The selection was enough that I had a decent variety to play with before deciding. Of course, I also did this for a good month & a half, in various stores, sometimes one right after the other - just depended on where I was at the time.

The only thing that's disappointed me so far, is that the Fry's here in Austin has SIGNIFICANTLY cut down on their selection of camera bags. They used to have a really good selection, and almost every Lowepro bag you could imagine. Now, all the larger bags are stuffed in one corner, next to tons of p&s cases. :(

The Fry's in Irving didn't have any DSLRs. Or at least they were not in their normal spot and they moved them.

Now that Radio Shack is batteries and cell phones only, Fry's is about the only place to get electronic components.

I had a hard time finding the wire I wanted at Radio Shack. I used to get parts there for repairig electronics or school lab assignments. No more I guess.

That's a development that I was not aware of. Too bad, RS was a good source for simple little doo-dads that are normally not easily found. Plus, RS stores are much more plentiful, not to mention a LOT closer to my place than the nearest dreaded Fry's.

Oh well..........

I just bought a new Nikon and thought about checking Fry's. The only thing that stopped me was all of the computer components that I have bought and had to take back as defective. Multiple motherboards, memory, cards, etc. Knock on wood, I've never had a bad hard drive. After they test the equipment they have always given me an exchange or refund without problem. It just isn't worth the few bucks I might have saved to get a camera that I don't know much about in the first place and then have it be bad.

So far, only 2 DSLRs have shown in the inventory list - D3000 and D5000 but as far as I know, the stock has yet to hit the stores.

I really really don't want another flame thread starting up but I noticed today that they are now going/are carrying DELL computers as well. The Webster store has a "Tech Show" set for Friday the 25th with Dell reps there and they are apparently giving away a laptop. I assume this info will show in the morning's ad.

We have Dells now at work. My HP is one of the last one standing and I am not sure I am happy about the update.
