Discounts for camera and lens - 05-20-2010, 08:03 PM

I am wanting to purchase a 5D Mark II with the 70-200 2.8 IS lens. I am wondering if there are dealers who give a discount for buying both at the same time? I have checked B&H, Amazon, etc. and there seems to be no such "animal". Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Lots of people have had difficulty dealing with Competitive Camera in Dallas but a friend of mine just got a 7D and 24-70 2.8L there and Ramsey, the owner, gave him a discount for buying both.

I hate to say it but thoswe are somewhat big ticket items that are still selling well which means they might not budge too much on price.

If you want cheaper, why not buy used?

Margins are thin and few can afford to make any deals on name brand equipment.

+1, especially if you can find the lens from a reputable seller. If you are OK with the 70-200 f/2.8 IS version I, you will probably find more of them on the market. The updated version II is expensive but does have some major improvements (shorter minimum focus distance, upgraded IS).

Another option is to wait for the next round of Canon instant rebates, but it's sometimes hard to predict what will be discounted.

^even that doesn't mean you might get a good price.

I know on the previous round of rebates, due to the fact the prices have risen so much, it doesn't really help (well I guess a little).

I think I got my 70-200 f2.8 IS on rebate brand new from adorama for like 1450 back in summer of 09. I remember back in the last round of rebates, the price was something like 1650ish after rebate for the same lense just one year later.
