picture control preferences for Canon 50D - 05-25-2010, 09:14 PM

Hi all,

I just purchased a Canon 50D today with the kit lens. Are their any preferred settings/adjustments that I should make for optimum quality? I switched from Nikon so this is a whole new deal for me. Any and all help is appreciated. Also, any recommended lenses? I shoot weddings, families, sports, etc. I'm getting a speedlite 430 ex II tomorrow, so any other ideas?

Fast glass......Look for the L moniker.

I would also bump up to the 580ex instead of the 430. Maybe pick one up used?

I will say that for the most accurate LCD renditions -- the "faithful" picture style seems to reproduce very well. A small amount of saturation, and moderate contrast as well. that is all moot if you shoot raw.

If you need more advice I would search more maybe?

Pretty much you've got a lot of good advice so far.

Buy good glass (doesn't matter what brand).

Shoot RAW, would negate any picture styles.

If not you can try each picture style and see what you like.

If i told you to shoot in sepia the whole time would you?

What lenses were you using the most with your Nikon? Most will probably have something similar on the Canon, and if not we can recommend something similar.
