Old Leica on New Leica. - 05-27-2010, 10:40 PM

NEW TOY!
Picked up a used out of print 90mm Elmarit 2.8 for my M9, and then sent it off to a shop in N.J. to have the focus calibrated. Got it back today and grabbed my trusty model. Love love love the sharp focus and oh so creamy bokeh! The colors are fantastic too. These are pretty much straight out of camera, raw processed through Aperture 3.0. Shot wide open, hand held this evening.

Here's a link to the high res of the second one.

Might not match a 5D or D3x technically, but overall I lubs it.
And not too bad considering you have to manually focus with that tiny little freakin patch in the center of the frame.
Still getting used to that.

Very nice, Dennis. Old or new, Leica does not make bad lenses! I am greatly enjoying my 60mm macro Elmarit R f/2.8 on my Canon. Tri

Looks good to me! Still hoping to enter the Land of Leica at some point before I cross over to the other side of eternity.

My 90 Elmarit dates back to 1965 and it is an incredible lens on the M9.

Thanks! Here's another snap from yesterday right after i unboxed it.
Converted to b/w and sharpened for web.

And Tri... I was thinking of getting an adaptor for occasional use on my Nikon.
Works well, eh?

Only "R" Lenses will work on Nikon. Film to Flange distance is too great for "M" lenses.

Don't forget the older LTM lenses with an adapter. The 85/1.5 Summarex is amazing.

Examples of Summarex

Pretty M9. Ooooh. One of these days I'll get one but right now I'm wedded to my M3.

I second the recommendation for trying LTM lenses. The Summarex is usually very expensive. However try the Leitz Elmar 50/3.5, or the Elmar 90/4.

There are other good lenses like the Nikkor 85/2 LTM as well.

Hello Dennis. IMO, go with R-lenses. There are plenty of good deals on e-bay or DPIforum. I have both the Novoflex and the Fotodiox adapter for my Canon. They both work well. Tri.

An alternative to the Summarex is the Cannon 85/1.5

Don't over look the Canon LTM (S-Mount) lenses. The 50/1.2 is Sweet.

Good resource for Canon LTM Lenses.

Hey you can go my route....Convert a Sigma SD14 to a Leica-R mount...then just pick-up a few lenses and enjoy...

Here is a few with an Angenieux Leica-R 35-70 lens I picked up from a fellow TPFer...

I am having fun with my new Toy's too...

M8 with a Canon Serenar 85mm f/2 (ca. 1948) + Voigtlander LTM-M adapter on it:

Found this lens for a real bargain last summer while digging around a local camera store. Poor man's 90mm Summicron!
