In any event, this flies in the face of the ability of consumers to find suitable frames. It's an 8X10 world out there, if you're looking for frames. Yes, I know that custom frames are available, at a much higher price, so they're less desirable to the mass market. While a photographer is perfectly willing to pop for higher end framing to best show off his image, many consumers are not as loose with their bucks.

I've not heard of it, but it's something to look into. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm at a point right now where I was considering not even offering 8x10 prints. Not because they're 'difficult' to produce - but because EVERYONE has 8x10's ... and the client comes to me to be different.

I do my best to sell 8x12's or 11x14's or better yet 12x18's. (24x36's are great for wow factor)

Then again I believe that bigger is better.

This is true but in the US they have not caught up with the 8x12 (1.5) the new cameras are putting out!

Your 5D should do a pretty good job of letting you get fairly big prints. Say "interpolation algorithm" a few times really fast, and know that there's software to make teeny files into quite usable posters or even billboards if the need ever arises.

Don't know how you switch between a 5D (Cadillac) and an XT (Kia)!

New cameras? You mean those new-fangled 35mm film SLRs? Those were basically the same aspect ratio we have now with DSLRs.

8x10 is a leftover from the portrait studio days when a 4x5 film camera was the weapon of choice.... or if you want to go way back, from the 8x10 view cameras.

Regardless, my point (and comment about dusting) is that the 8x10 is a stupid size. Its too small for a wall portrait and its too big for a fridge. About the only place it seems to work is on the walls of a narrow hallway or stairwell.

The 24x36's are as big as I've gone to date ... but I have to say that they look su-weeeeet! A local restaurant has asked me to provide them multiple images in that size for decoration of their new venue, that made me feel pretty good.

I really need to learn more about that interpolation algorithm thingymabob. More studying ... yay!

It's all good though, cause when ya quit learning ... ya need to hang it up.

Thanks!

The XT was my first DSLR ... I actually made one of the 24x36's with this one
and it just keeps chuggin' along. I believe that when I am able to get the 5DM2 or a 1D ... I'll convert it to IR and play in that realm for a bit. (I thought it was more closely related to a Yugo. lol)
