Online Training - 06-27-2010, 11:02 PM

I am looking at using Lynda dot com for Adobe product training. I am wondering who here uses it and for those who do, did you go the route of getting the training material? Is it worth the extra $12.50 per month?

My experience with Adobe is quite limited and I want to learn Fireworks, Dreamweaver, PS and Illustrator. Yes, I know that is a lot. But it seems to be a great place to get training on all of them.

I watched several of the videos and they seem to be well outlined and put together. Does anyone have any other suggestions for similar online training?

If you want to be able to walk through the tutorials using the same material they are demonstrating, then I expect the extra $12.50 a month may be worth it. In any case, it's a win-win situation for both you and them. If you find you don't need the training materials, you can easily change your subscription.

They don't limit you to what you are learning, so while you're subscribed, if you need to learn something else they have tutorials for.., you can!

That, to me, is the difference in Scott Kelby's site and Lynda.com. With one you only get photoshop and lightroom tuturials, with the other you get tutorials for more programs than you have time to learn.

There are a lot of great free video podcasts on iTunes. I use that and Kelby Training. Never used Lynda.

@ KdLaneJr - Thanks for the reply. I am leaning towards getting the files for a month or so and see how it goes. It seems to be a reasonable price for what you get.

I didn't think of the podcast... seems like that would be a great free help.

I am starting from near zero knowledge of the products, would this make a difference on the podcasts?

A friend of mine uses Lynda and likes it. Kelby is one of the best.

I used both, but here's the difference:

- Kelby courses are usually short and very condensed. Still packed with great info.

- Lynda courses are very extensive, very long, and very detailed.

Both are great and you can't go wrong with either.

I also have a Lynda account. And yes it is very detailed.

I love the Layers Magazine tuts and Kelby tuts as well.

For me, the Lynda tuts are very adobe oriented and the Kelby tuts are more creative techniques.

Like Sonny said, they are both great and both of them have strong teaching methods for online teaching.
