Where To Buy Good Used Lenses? - 07-19-2010, 04:07 PM

Hi,
Can someone tell me from their experience, where are some good places to find/buy used lenses?
Only place I ever try to search is ebay and/or craiglist. Hoping there are some other more exclusive places on the internet or even locally in Houston.

Thanks!

This site has a fairly active Buy/Sell section.

I have been a member of POTN for several years. I have bought and sold several items and always had a good transaction.

Check out LensRentals.com - Rent Canon, Nikon, Olympus, or Sony Lenses and Cameras. At the bottom of their home page they have a list of lenses that they have for sell. They have a pretty strict rating system to tell how "used" they actually are. I've purchased an 85 1.2 and 35 1.4 from them and both have been well above what I expected for the price payed. They give you a 3 day grace period if you're not happy with it and also a 90 warranty if I remember correctly. They clear out stock twice a year but also have lots of other lenses in out between then.

Check your local camera shop too...I got a screaming deal on a used 18-200vr there.

I've also had luck on Ebay too...but YMMV and it is certainly buyer beware.
Find a local seller so you can check it out first. I've bought 2 excellent lenses
on craigslist....I've also looked at some others and passed only because they didn't quite
fit me need at the time.

As a previous poster mentioned there is the buy and sell section here on TPF..also a great resource.

Houston Camera Exchange is the most well known (I think) place to buy used glass in and around the Houston area.

I have had good luck with e-bay. Rangefinderforum.com is another good site. Since you are a Canon shooter, be patient and you can find a good lens for a fair price in this forum. Good luck. Tri

+3 for KEH.com and also for this forum. I like KEH's strict grading - and return policy and they are knowledgable and helpful on the phone.
