What qualifies as "somewhat cheap" ??

Because I find the Sigma 150mm macro somewhat cheap.

Tamron 90mm

Sigma 150

Nikon 85mm micro

somewhere around 500ish... maybe a little more. I dunno. I just don't have 1000 to spend right at the moment.

Haven't used any of them, so all I can tell you is why I'm going with the Siggy 150 over the others.

I like the extra reach of the 150 vs 90. The samples I've seen with the D90 with the 90 and the 150 are both stellar. Couldn't go wrong with either one, but I just want the extra reach. I'll be getting my setup at the end of the year.

Which will be this:

Siggy 150

Kenko tubes

Ray flash

I'm debating on the Ray Flash though...

I have a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 + Promaster extension tubes. I think this is approx. $200-300 for the set.

This was from back in April, but if you don't mind manual focus, you can't beat a deal like this:

heh, never mind, just found out...

Quote:
Extension tubes are designed to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance. Getting closer has the effect of magnifying your subject (making it appear larger in the viewfinder and in your pictures). They are exceptionally useful for macro photography, enabling you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens at a fraction of the cost while maintaining its original optical quality.

The extension tubes have no optics. They are mounted in between the camera body and lens to create more distance between the lens and film plane. By moving the lens father away from the film or CCD sensor in the camera, the lens is forced to focus much closer than normal. The greater the length of the extension tube, the closer the lens can focus.

X tubes a lot less than $500! (just pick up a used set on ebay since the only thing to go bad on them is the release levers). Some people have even made xtubes out of pringle chip cans!

so... I'm probably going to pick up this lens pretty soon...
Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di 1:1 Macro Lens AF272NII-700 - B&H

The link doesn't say anything about mounting to a D90. Am I to assume because it will mount to D40, D40x, D60, D3000 and D5000 Cameras, that it should mount to the D90 as well?

hmm, at work we have a D3000. I just took the lens off that and put it on my D90, fits just fine.

Does anyone know if there might be any problems with it's functionality by putting it on that Tamron on a D90?

Another vote for the 90mm. I use it ALL THE TIME. Better than the Nikon 60mm which I also use.
All nikon mounts are the same.
