Hi all -

Never been a serious photographer, but am looking to improve on what I have been doing -

We are hunters, but have found that we're doing more video taping and photography than shooting lately. For video we have an Sony HD Handycam SR5, i think, with the doubler lens. Shots are typically long, but this is pretty acceptable. Would like to pick up an even better lens, but I think this is the only one they make for this camera. Anyone know differently.

I currently have a Canon SX-110 for an every day camera, but am thinking of getting a new digital with interchangeable lenses. Only thing is I remember back when we used the 35mm cameras and associated lenses the burden it could be to lug everything around. A friend has mentioned the new micro four thirds cameras that are coming out as a possibility. A lot of shots will be at the 175+ yard range.

Would love any imput and need all the help I can get . . .

Here is what you really want.

Sony unveils NEX-VG10 E-mount HD camcorder: Digital Photography Review

It uses the same lenses as the Sony Nex 3 and Nex 5 cameras and will use Sony Alpha (DSLR) mount lenses with an adapter.

Either a 7D + 70-200 IS or a D90 + 70-200 VR is all you need to shoot that far. They both do pictures & video at a much better quality than most of the camcorder in the same range.

Thank you for the help - I will be looking into these suggestions. One question I have (since I am not that familiar with these camera model numbers) is will they auto focus in video mode? I have heard that all these slr type cameras with video capability won't auto focus in video. Thanks again.

How about a micro 4/3 camera such as a Panasonic G2, or GF1(much smaller) with the panasonic 45-200mm lens. The 2x crop factor will essentially give you a 90-400mm zoom. Good luck. Tri
