D700 Problems / Repair Recommendations? - 08-29-2010, 11:14 AM

I was recently in Honduras shooting a project. When I returned, I had 2 weddings to shoot. In both, I noticed that my flash (SB-800) was acting crazy when I was not metering or shooting.

In fact, even in wireless TTL through the built-in flash, my remote was acting up (an SB-900).

Last night, at my 3rd wedding, there were times when the flash would not go off in the hotshoe, or, it would flash at significantly reduced power.

It got worse throughout the night.

I have a 2 day event coming up in 2 weeks. Who can recommend a good Nikon repair shop with a quick turnaround?

Your description is a little vague. Does the D700 work with your other flash units? If you do not have one I would go to a camera shop or try a friends. Isolate whether it is the flash or camera. Sounds to me like it it the SB900, but again, there are many possibilities to "acting up".

I know this is a stupid question, but are you using good fresh batteries?

Both flashes are both exhibiting the behavior.

Can you recommend a good repair shop? I need quick turnaround.

Are you a member of NPS?

Do you know for certain if the problem is the flashes or the camera?

Not sure what NPS is. So no. I have to get this camera into a shop for a good thorough cleaning and checkup. I just returned from a 3rd world country with daily 95+% humidity, dirt, 100 degree heat and every other inhospitable situation for a camera.

I don't need forum diagnostic questions. I need a good recommendation of a repair shop in the Dallas area. Thank you though. :)
