This is a vacation?
A Canon pocketable P & S! You'll thank me some day! I know, HERESY! Or, that failing, a D 40 or similar with the maahvelous 18-55; VR or not, doesn't matter.

A working vacation. Babysitting 4 grandkids. I may have a morning or two to myself.
P&S, hey? This is my digital P&S........

I point. It shoots.

If you are going to be up in Boone/Grandfather Mountain area, then the widest lens you got should work. Beyond that, a good portrait lens as the people around that area are unique and fun. There is a little ski resort up that way that had night skiing, so you might be able to get a lift to the top of the hill.

Boone is a cool little town -- not sure where you are gonna be though

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

My daughter moved to Boone in June. We will be staying at her house.

After a week of playing Soccer Mom to 4 kidlets, I have used exactly 1 camera and 3 lenses. I was the only Soccer Mom in Boone with a Canon 1D Mk III and a pair of 1:2.8 L zoom lenses. Grinning.
