Can old rechargeable batteries make flash malfunction? My Nikon flash has started recently acting up. Sometimes it doesn't fire and then it fires 4 times and it doesn't fire 3 times.

My Canon flashes NEVER acted up like this! People are raving about Nikon flashes but In my opinion Canon ones are much better and reliable! I have two Canon ones and had never had any problems with them!

The batteries in the Nikon SB 900 are fully charged energizer batteries. Do you think old batteries can cause the flash malfunction

I can't comment on Nikon flashes but my experience with energizer rechargeable are that they are inconsistent at best. They don't hold a charge very well and they have a inconsistent discharge cycle leaving you with a different charge level in each battery.

Invest in some Maha Power Ex 2700mAh or Sanyo 2700 mAh rechargeables. My favorites are the low discharge Sanyo Eneloop or Maha Imedeon. These are great for long term storage while maintaining a charge.

Also invest in a good maha battery charger to take advantage of the performance of these batteries and to maintain their longevity and consistent charge levels.

I have to agree with you. I have just ordered the maha batteries and the charger. My kids will use the energizer ones in their toys....
Thanks a lot!
