Good Price On CF Card - 09-13-2010, 06:28 PM

Picked up a couple of Transcend 32GB 400x Compact Flash cards from Amazon.com for $98.88. From what I have read, others have had good results with this brand and speed. This has been the best value in a CF card I have been able to find for my Canon 7D.

That's a very good deal. I may grab one. I've been using the 16GIG ones and have had great experiences.

What is the transfer speed? That's the important thing.

Jennifer I have the 16GB 400X and they work like magic! That 32GB price is really nice, and Transcend has a lifetime warranty..nice find.

I had a whole slew of 4GB transcend cards that I really liked alot. Currently I have two 32GB and four 8GB, Lexar 233x UDMA cards that I picked up back in January and November respectively. I think I paid 122 for the 32GB from amazon, and 54 for the 8GB.

Very good deal that you found -- the important thing to look for for the 7d is the UDMA compatible cards

I get the warm fuzzies when the camera reads 999 for the number of remaining photos available on the card. This is quite a jump for in size and speed from my last set of cards (4GB Lexar). With my upcoming trip this week to Wyoming and the Alliance Airshow in October, the new cards will be put to the test.

I hope we are coming to the end of the megapixel war by camera manufacturers. Noticed the Canon G11 actually went down significantly on its overal megapixel count vs its predicesor. I like the large size of these cards but wonder how long they will remain "large size".... as I just pulled a 512K card out of my holder.

I was just reading in Popular photography about one of the new P&S cameras coming out that they actually brought it down to 10MP to get a better IQ instead of overpacking the sensor. I was wondering at what point they would start reigning in the MP count on these small sensors in favor of better overall IQ performance.

I think as regular consumers start to ask the expert users on recommendations for a good camera -- the expert users are more likely to steer them towards a higher IQ and ignore the megapixels.

Also when the DSLR crowd wants a pocket sized camera to tote around at a theme park or other venue where it is impractical to carry a large one

Canon did that when they upgraded the G10 to the G11. Dropped from like 14 to 10MP.

I think the new one I was reading about was the new Lumix that was coming out with a pixel count around 10MP I believe.

Kingston rated their 133x CompactFlash at 25MB/sec. read and 20MB/sec. write. Transcend rated the 400x at 90MB/sec read and 60MB/sec write. These are best case senarios from the manufacturer.

There can be quite a bit of difference on throughput from 133x to 400x when used with a camera that supports UDMA flash cards. With that being said, if I was not going to be shooting action sequences or performing large data transfers off the card, I might not mind the extra value from a 133x card.

Current price of the Kingston 32GB 133x is only $69.00 through Buy.com

Yeah, a 133x and a 400x is a big difference. I have a bunch of old 133x cards from transcend, but I only use Transcend 400x and Lexar 300x cards now.

But the vast majority of my stuff is extremely time sensitive, so the speed helps a lot.
