Is this a sensor problem? - 09-14-2010, 12:30 PM

Thank goodness I took these pics just playing around, but I noticed these red and green dots all over the picture. Is this a sensor problem? The iso is at 1600 btw.

100% crop

Yes, they are called "hot pixels." Do a web search, and you'll get several hits on the topic including ways to fix it in post.

Take a few more, in different directions. If the dots don't move relative to the sensor, it's a problem. If they do move, you're in the Twilight Zone.

My Canon maps those and "fixes" them so you don't have to see them anymore. I was told that every SLR has a few, straight out of the box. It doesn't sound like it's a big deal.

Thanks, I wasn't overly concerned since it was a lon exposure at a high iso. Thanks for the info!
