Quick question... Excluding video, what compelled you to move up from the 5D classic?

I bet for most its the concept of gear head mania although few will admit it.

I went back to 5D from trying out the 5DII for a wedding. The way I shoot, I still like my 5D more since I don't need video, nor the high ISO. The LCD is nicer though.

So far, we have...

- Higher resolution
- Better ISO performance
- Nicer LCD

All three of these could benefit my shooting. I'll keep listening.

Live view, ISO, LCD, resolution, and self cleaning sensor are a few nice upgrades that I use.
Plus video....

When I bought my F-150 eight years ago, I told a friend that I got one with the Triton V8. He asked me if I was going to be towing anything with it. I said, "Nope. I just want the power."

You did the right thing, John. I cannot imagine buying a big truck with a small engine...
However, I love small cars with big engines!!! Tri

Like you I'm mulling over getting one myself but since the 5D3 is rumored to be released next year I'm at a waiting stage.

With that said a couple of friends mentioned that like all new DSLRs, the 5D2 has an AF lens micro-adjustment custom function. The 5D1 doesn't.

1) Noise-free higher ISO performance
2) Full frame sensor to get everything out of wide angle lenses

Don't care at all about video or the live view. In fact, they can take the live view off of every camera as far as I'm concerned.

Have you used live view before? Being able to zoom in 10x on the LCD for macro and tilt/shift work is the best thing since sliced bread.

I can see the uses for live view. Definitely good to use as a focus aid in certain situations. Video is nice, though not a necessity. I liked the higher and better iso performance. I primarily shoot weddings and even with fast glass, lots of times, venues are dark, so that's a definite plus. the LCD is AWESOME. I have found that I almost can't use my original 5D outside. Not sure how I've made it all these years without a higher resolution LCD. The gearhead in me did come into play, but I also bought my 5D when they came out and used it constantly for 3 years. It was time for an upgrade.
As for rumors of the 5D3, I have yet to come across any and usually won't buy or wait to buy based on rumors. If it's something that I use to make money and the current model suits my needs, I just go ahead and buy it and not worry about what MIGHT be coming out. Also, because the 5D was such a solid performer, in my estimation, I would expect a longer product cycle for it's successor.
Just my 2 cents.
