Cool EOS Rebel T2i EF-S 18-55mm IS ???? - 10-26-2010, 08:41 AM

My daughter wants a Rebel for Christmas. Son-in-Law is buying.

Give me the Good. The Bad. The Ugly. How good is ISO 6400? As good as my 1D Mk III? How good is the video? Useful or marketing Double Talk? What kind of cards do you need to make video practical? Which "second lens" would be ok beyond 55mm? Don't even mention the "L" word. I see a 55-250 and several 75-300 lenses. Is one of those any better than the others? She has 3 kids with lots of soccer games their future. Yep, she will be a M.W.A.C.

Throw this in the mix: Would the G12 be all she really needs? Which Nikon camera is similar?

18Mp. I will be jealous. Thanks for your help.

I have the T2i and the video is very nice from it. ISO6400 is barley OK for web and *maybe printing 4x6. ISO1600 is pretty good though for a cropped camera.
As for as cards for video, I would look at the "class 10" SD's. I have a few class 6 and some can keep up with video, others don't.

Can't help with the lens question, I've never used the ones you mentioned.
