It was a five dollar lens... any residual chip grease will only improve its optical quality.

I've been tempted to make a pinhole camera and/or try converting an old Brownie lens onto my DSLR. I guess that's why I bought a Lensbaby kit. It would however be fun to show up to a wedding shoot with a lens made of cans and duck tape and see what kind of reaction you get from the bride and groom.

Yeah, I have a lensbaby. I've even used it for a few shots that wound up as magazine/newspaper covers! However, I find the recycling/re-use of old and odd lenses to be much more fun!!! Speaking of pinhole work, I have built several from scratch - one that used an old 6x9 roll film back and another that took 4x5 holders. And, of course the easy "drill a hole in your slr body cap" method... pinhole work can be rewarding.
