Off brand battery for Canon 40D? - 11-28-2010, 04:34 PM

I remember a long time ago Captain Tom mentioning an off brand battery that was just as good as the Canon brand but much cheaper. I'm looking for the BP-511A size.

I have using Adorama brand batteries in my 30D with excellent results. They have held a charge on the shelf for 3 months or more and I have shot 400+ shots on one battery.

Looks like they only make a Power2000 brand for the BP-511A type for $20. Don't know how good a battery that is.

From what I have read, the difference between the BP-511 & 511A is the mAh rating. Canon brand BP-511 is 1100mAH & Canon brand BP-511A is 1380mAh. The Adorama brand is 1400mAh. They will work, I have them in my 30D.

The first Dan: I do believe it was Sterlingtek that Tom mentioned. Will look into that.

The second Dan: So you're saying the 511 fits the same as the 511A? At only $8.50 a pop I bet the shipping costs more but still cheaper than the Canon at $45 a pop. May have to give one a try. Thanks!

Just checked: the Sterlingtek are rated at 1800 mAh and a two-pack costs $22.78 at Amazon.
