Abel,
I'm looking at a 20D real hard. The biggest question I have is: Is the 20D really that much faster focusing (and more accurate) than the 10D/Dreb? In your opinion, is there a marked diff?
Thanks,

I know you addressed the question to Abel, but if I might mention one huge difference that I've noticed. (I have also upgraded from the 10D to the 20D)
The best feature for me is the 'instant-on' when pressing the shutter button. The 10D had a lag time, which now seems like forever. :) Important if you need to grab a quick photo.

i second those comments...
- the quick start up time is very nice
- i love the write speed on this thing, it screams at about 5.5mb/sec compared to the 10d & the Rebels 1.4mb/sec
- bigger buffer than the others.. which allows u to continue to take photos without seeing BUSY displayed on your lcd screen.
- focuses better in low light, i think 1 stop better than the 10d
- auto focus is much quicker
- 8mp vs 6mp
- better images at high ISOs, a big plus

My 2 cents: Yes...everyone who's picked up my camera and has a dReb remarks on how fast it starts up and how fast is focuses. Of course focus speed is affected by the lenses you use.

| I agree but having both cameras along with the MarkII the 20D blows the 10D out of the water in the fast and correct foucing area and the MarkII blows the 20D away. Photographing Sports from soccer to football with the 20D made my life so much easier. With the 10D I was able to get the camera on the action but the focusing could not keep up quick enough! | | | |

Well maybe this will make you feel better! Unless you are shooting sports full time for money or plan on doing a lot of shooting in the rain or bad weather, the 20D will do just about anything you ask it to do and do it well. From weddings, portraits, sports, etc. the 20D has a good enough buffer space and decent focusing to keep up with the best of them. However with that said DO NOT PICK UP A MARK II AND PLAY WITH IT. If you do well get ready to sleep in your car, cause it is like Crack Cocaine to us Camera Junkies, you wont ever do without it again :)

Thanks folks for all your replys. The start-up speed really isn't an issue with me, nor the buffer write but the low light focus and focus track is a BIG deal with what I do.
Can't quite make myself spring for the L-glass but my 2.8 Sigma stuff seems to work pretty well.
So, all that to say........y'all just helped me decide to go with 20D instead of a used 10D. I appreciate your taking the time to reply.
Now, if we could just have some sunshine on the East side of the state.
Thanks again,

what about the 350D as an option. almost as good as the 20D but much cheaper.
I wish I could afford the 20D!

| I can't answer that question since I have not played with one, but I do know the controls on the rebel style body would not work for my style of shooting, I shoot on Manuel almost 99% of the time and not having two dial to control both f/stop and shutter speed would kill me! From what I have read it seems to be a pretty good camera though, larger than the 10D and at least as good! | | | |

Able sez: "what exactly are you primarily shooting?"
AbeL, I'm shooting mostly small wildlife, landscapes and portrait stuff. I'm one of those anti-socials that doesn't want to put up with the parents at the ball fields. Did my turn there with two sons, got the raggedidy t-shirt to prove it. haha.
And The ObiJuan sez: "what about the 350D as an option. almost as good as the 20D but much cheaper."
Obi, I studied that pretty hard too, and it came down to a used 10D or a new 350D for awhile. 350D looks like it's gonna be a very good camera, but..........it's still got the Dreb/10D focusing/metering systems and that's my biggest gripe with the Dreb I'm using now. And, since my wifie gonna get the Dreb when I get the 20D, it'd be nice to stay with the same size batteries.
Thanks for the thoughts and ideas folks. Pretty shur it'll be a 20D since low light metering and quick focusing are what's most important to me.
