Monitor calibration - Which one? - 01-14-2011, 12:54 PM

I have the monitor calibrator called Colorvision Spyder 3. I have a mac and two PCs. I have used Spyder 3 for a while and I have noticed that the colors are different on all three screens. I assume the purpose of a monitor calibrator is that the photographer sees the same colors his/her clients will see...Anyway.
I have decided to get a new calibrator. I don't want to spend a lot of money on it. My budget is 150-400.
What monitor calibrator can you recommend. I do wedding photography and I shoot a lot of Indian weddings where true colors are essential.

Thanks!

i would recommend a book over a new calibrator. i think ewe steinmuller (or something of the likes) writes the most "down to earth" version. with Fraser's book being more of my taste. either should get you the info you need to know.

things i have learned which may benefit you...
1) it's not just the calibrator, it's the monitor and video card as well
2) it cannot be just purely science, it is always left up to some human interpretation
3) judging of an accurate calibration should be done with a print, if you don't do printing, more of the process is outside of your control
4) achieving WYSIWYG isn't as easy as one would hope
5) MAC's don't offer as much control as PC's
6) how you do your monitor calibration matters (amount of ambient light)
7) it's a process that needs to be repeated often
8) Scott and zeroendless seem to know more about this than I do.

I use the Color Munki, which will also serve as a printer calibrator. However, the type of monitor you have is also important. Cheaper LCDs are too bright, and many can't really be turned down enough, with the end result being darker prints than you want.
