It's a lot faster than the 85L that's for sure!

I read the subject, just for a second, as "Tried a Canon 50D at Imaging and now I WANT ONE!" and wondered why that's got you so excited.

Slightly OT, Thomas you have the 24L, how do you feel about its focusing? I have one and it fishes like crazy when wide open. I keep trying very hard to bond with it but i am wishy washy about it.

There are two different 50Ls. 50L 1.2 and 50L 0.95. I assumed you tried the 1.2. It is a killer lens for walking around.

Make sure you get a good copy. There have been various reports of the L being not as good as a prime like this should be.

A friend of mine tried the L and decided it was not that sharp so he went and bought the Sigma. Then he tried my Canon 1.4 and liked it much better than the Sigma. He then went back and tried the L again and found with a better copy that it blew him away so he bought it straight away and flipped the Sigma.

I would be more concern with the focus shift problem associated with the 50 f/1.2L. Its the main reason I never owned one.

I would try the 1.4 too, I've checked out the 1.4 and 1.2 from the school here, and prefer the 1.4 in the size, weight, focus accuracy (a matter of DOF really). While the 1.2, when it nails focus, is awesome, we're talking about a minuscule amount of movement that throws it off.

You need to be careful wandering around the Canon booth. I was there today and there were entirely too many goodies. 85mm f1.2 is simply luscious and did you see the 'big guns' in the glass display. The 400mm f4 DO looked positively tiny next to some of them.
