Fast memory card making writing faster???

Some people say that a fast memory cards don't make Medium Format cameras to write faster. Some people say it does, Hasselblad and Mamiyas write photos faster on faster CF cards so one can take more photos in a given time. I am confused....

Boy the answer would depend on so many things, 1)speed of the memory card, 2)speed of the camera's cf interface, 3)size of the camera's memory buffer, 4)resolution of the back. Those are a few variables I can think of

If card A writes at 100x and the camera only writes at 66x, then increasing the card to one that writes at 233x is not going to change anything.

However, if the camera back is capable of utilyzing the latest UDMA technologies and you change from a 233x (non-UDMA) card to a 300x UDMA card, you will see drastic write speed increases.

So just stating medium format/ Hassy or mamiya doesn't narrow it down enough -- you would need to look at the specs of the particular back and then see what kind of potential increase a faster card might have

The speed of the card won't influence the initial frame rate, but it will impact the ability to continue at that frame rate. My A900 can shoot at 5 fps longer with a 300x card than a 133x card because the camera buffer can empty faster.

This only matters if your camera can write at those speeds. You would still see faster read speeds if you use a card reader.
