Aren't there Pentax forums? Like Nikon Forums? Perhaps they hide out there. Avoid scorn here? Grinning.
Related: A friend at work was shopping for a dSLR last week. He was all set to follow the herd and buy a Canon Rebel. When he said his primary use would be video, I pointed him at the Sony A55-A33 duo. The A55 was out of stock most everywhere. He went for instant gratification. Bought the A33. Happy as a clam. The built in artificial horizon in the viewfinder is AWESOME!
There are alternatives.

There are a few floating around. I like the K-5 but not enough to change systems.

All the time, Murph. I just don't usually hang out here.

Yeah, not many people remember that, though. This is pretty much a Canon/Nikon world.

I know a couple of folks around campus here who have Pentax for their macro/biomed work, simply because its a adapter-friendly system. There's a microscope that has a Pentax mount (via adapter) and works around the mirror-lockup system. Not sure how but the mirror stays up and they live view compose and shoot, some pretty cool stuff.

I was shooting a K10D back before I switched over to Nikon when I bought the D90. I liked it, just not the availability of lenses at the time. You could use the older lenses if you could find them.

BTW, for the money back at the time with all the weather sealing etc. it was a great camera.
