Canon 50mm 1.2 focus problems

I purchased my 50mm 1.2 last month and I seem to be having some problems with two of the focus points. I toggle my points based on the image and it seems like the points to the left and right of the top center point are slow to focus or won't at all. A photographer friend of mine also just purchased the lens and was having a problem with one of hers too. Is this a known problem? Is there a learning curve I may not know about with this lens?

I doubt it's a problem. It is well known that most modern dSLRs focus better with the center xfocus point of the lens and very weak on the other points. Try that with any other lenses you have and see if you have the same problem.

Now if your 50L 1.2 has back or front focus, then that is a problem normally happens in the older batch of the 50, which can be sent in for a calibration.
