TSE - Hard decision for HK - 03-02-2011, 12:10 PM

Okay I am going to be going to HK in a few weeks.

So I am deciding what lens to bring. I am going to bring my trust 24-105L because that goes with me everywhere. Leaving that heavy 24-70 at home. And my 35L for those low light shots.

But I am thinking about buying a TSE lens. So my choices are the new 17mm vs the new 24mm. I like to shoot panos when I can but I can see where the 17mm would come in handy. But I understand that you would get a more defined TS effect with the 24mm.

So what do you all think, just take the 24-105 and 35 and call it a day or buy a 17/24TSE and take that with my 24-105 and 35 :)

I think that most of the places where you might want to set up for a pano will be too busy for a tripod.

If I were looking at a TS-E to shoot panos with I'd look at the 45 and 90.

If you are using a leveled tripod, you won't need the a TS-E but could benefit from one. It all depends on how many shots you want to build your pano from.

I can't imagine shooting a pano with my TSE.

I have the 45 and love it.

Really, why not? I have been reading up on the TS-E lenses and most everything I have read mentions using the shift as a way to get a nice pano that can approach the size of a med format.

Makes sense.

Probably because I usually free hold my panos. In fact, I've only shot one with a tripod and that was at night and all 2sec exposures.

I normally do not use a tripod unless I am doing landscape. But HK would be busy to lug a tripod and 11 month old...

We here at TPF are enablers. You should purchase the 15 fish, 17tse and the 24 tse, and take only those to HK.

On a serious note, I would just take the 24-105, the 35 and maybe a 50 if you have one.
