Tripod table for tethered shooting - 03-25-2011, 05:35 AM

What do you use as a table for tethered shooting? Tethertools' products seem to be the only game in town.

Anyone do a DIY project? Pictures if you have them.

Thanks,
Ray

I purchased this cart from a restaraunt supply store in Houston. It is stainless, sturdy and rolls easily around the pinewood floors of the studio. I can turn the cart to face the client so they can see the 27" monitor, or I can simply roll it to where only I and my shoot assistant can see it.

When I don't use it for tethered shooting, I store my studio strobe modifiers on it. It can also be used as a serving cart for drinks and food when we have events for groups at the studio.

500 lbs. Capacity Stainless Utility Cart, Each

Ya, any rolling cart should be fine. Especially if it's just a laptop. Or a cheap rolling workstation. Check IKEA.

The rolling cart I have is used for lenses etc. I can and do shoot tethered, I'm looking for a combination for my laptop so I can easily stand it next to my shooting position to review the images without walking away or ideally even turning away from the client/model.

If it's a stationary setup (won't be redone often), I run USB via CAT5 in the walls using baluns, to a computer on the wall.

Give this a read also:

Personally, the tripod+tray makes me a little bit scared (everything falling over at once), but with the right sticks, it should hold fine. A while back I saw a dude using the Bogen long-Lens support (Amazon.com: Manfrotto 3252 Long Lens Support Bogen 3252: Camera & Photo) to hold a small netbook, but it's rated to under 2lbs, ymmv.

We Use a Rock-N-Roller With a Detachable Shelf. Works great for our tethered shoots and it helps with all the gear!

Recently while at Loews I saw a tripod light stand with a platform on top to attach the work lights too. The platform looked to be about perfect for a computer and the stand looked very sturdy. I think it was about $50

I ended up getting a Proline sheet music stand: ProLine GMS80A Conductor Sheet Music Stand and more Music Stands at GuitarCenter.com.

I've been thinking about getting something for tethered shooting...that music stand looks like a great idea.

Thanks for that.
