It would depend on what you like to shoot.
For $1500, I would try to get a 70-200 f4L non IS and a 24-105 f4L.
One or both of them would need to be a used purchase to fit your budget.

24-105L f4 IS | Except possibly the 17-55 2.8 or 10-22, if you don't plan on going FF anytime soon. | | | |

+1 on the 70-200 f4L non IS
for your crop-sensor, the Canon 17-55 2.8 IS is a good lens. That stays on my T1i most of the time.
I bought them both used on here, and came in well under $1500. | | | |

I will once again offer a differing opinion.
Lens selection is totally about 3 things
1. How do you intend to use it (what is your priority image quality or convenience?, will you be shooting in low light situations?, will you be shooting with a tripod? many consumer lenses do ok at F8 but suffer terribly wide open.
I have one of those 10x lenses and really enjoy it for the convenience when traveling with family. I also have many of the big heavy expensive lenses when I am shooting much more seriously.
My philosphy on shooting revolves around what is the goal of the outing? Others may differ but my family lack patience when I spend 45 minutes working a single shot :)
2. Budget
3. Holding of value (most pro glass doesn't go down much in value - even used.)

Hmm, if I had $1500 to spend on camera equipment?
I think id get a leica. I may be stretching the budget a bit with that. But I'd try to find a good little leica kit, or if not, id get a voightlander Bessa R2 and a nice 50mm.

Tokina 11-16mm ($600)
Tamron 17-50mm ($350)
Canon 70-200mm f/4 ($550)
Total $1,500 of nice glass and 11-200mm range (or 18-300 on your t1i)
---------------------------
Then bye bye.

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and Tamron 70-200 f/2.8. Good quality and good reach with nice speed (aperture-wise). | | | |

I want a wide zoom range and wide light range in at most 2 lenses (is that REALLY possible? LOL)
And Yes I liked the 28-200 but I know it is not that good compared to others. | | | |

3. Holding of value (most pro glass doesn't go down much in value - even used.) | For me my 50mm provides convenience so I am looking for quality. Also I want a big range in one lens. Because I have a 50 I want to go on either side of that. so the range of the 28-200 was really awesome to me. My budget is 1500. And yes I know GOOD glass will hold it's value. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
