Lens Rental

I have used Borrow lenses.com three times with great results. The rental place folks are recommending is on the other side of town from me so it just makes sense to have FedEx bring it to me.

Last two years I have taken a 70-200 f/2.8, 24-70 and 17-40. Probably could shorten the list to two for the next trip. This year I will be there in spirit because of a high school championship event in Fort Worth I have already signed up for.

I need to update this post. A few weeks ago I rented a 100-400 Canon lens from Borrowlenses.com which was a nice lens. The problem was that I wanted to rent a sidekick to try it out with the lens so I asked whether or not it would work with my ballhead and also specified that I was renting it to use with the 100-400 lens. I was told that it would put too much stress on my ballhead and why didn't I just rent the fullblown Gimball mount which would work with my ballhead. I even asked if the lens would balance on the larger Wimberly mount! (pretty specific about the use...right?) OK...so it needs the Arca Swiss mount which has two screws on it. Since I'd never used the 100-400 I didn't now that it only has ONE screw on its mount. I rented the equipment, it came on time so I was ready to go...I thought. The lens obviously would not stay on the mount and it was unusable.

When I contacted borrowlenses.com (I still have the email with the recommendation from their company rep) I was told that it is not their responsibility to give recommendations on gear because they have no idea if I had a larger lense that I would be using the Wimberly with (even though I had told them I specifically wanted to use it for the lens I was renting from them).

Bottom line, after several heated emails I told them they could keep their money but I would make sure that everyone I had recommended them to would hear about their terrible service and that the absolutely WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS. I also intend to file a claim with the BBB.

My rant is now over....don't use this company

I will try the Houston rental now that it is closer to home.

I thought they were pretty awesome too...until I asked them to stand behind their customer service. Sorry...no changing my mind and it's always worth warning others.

I have rented from Borrow lens several times. Never a problem. They have worked with me several times on extensions, special deals, rush orders, changed orders and out of stock lenses. Never a problem.
It's good to know about a place in town, though. I will certainly try them.
Now, back to the race track.
