Gear shuffle - 04-09-2011, 10:17 AM

I'm shuffling my gear around some. Gone are the L-series zoom lenses that I quite literally never used. The vast majority of my recent photography happens on film in cameras far older than I am (in some cases far older than my parents), but when I do shoot digital there's roughly a 97% chance it'll be my 50 1.4 on my 5D Mark II.

The L-zooms are now in the possession of people I believe will put them to good use. The wonders of modern banking let me sell the lenses and buy new things all in the same day, despite living some 200 miles from my bank. For months (years), I've wanted to get a monolight but I constantly debated with myself about what exactly I needed (or wanted) out of such a lighting instrument. I figured it out a few days ago, and that's what prompted the gear shuffle. An Einstein 640 has been ordered, along with a c-stand, a 70" octobox, and a 28" beauty dish. That ought to do it on the lighting front.

I plan on adding a wide and a telephoto lens for my Mamiya C3. Adding the 135 f/2L to the mix has also crossed my mind but I'm not sure I can really justify that, as I'm not sure I'd end up using it all that much. I do have the 85 1.8, and while I love the results I get when I do use that lens those occasions are quite rare. On account of my increasing interest in film, perhaps I should invest in an enlarger so I can make prints of my B&W negatives. Who knows.

This thread largely has no point, I'm just in a rambling mood. Fitting that Led Zeppelin's "Ramble On" just graced my speakers with its presence.

You could get a nice EOS analog camera for next to nothing. Add the 35/2.0. 35-50-85 is a classic trio.

Saw Jimmy Page & Jon Bohnam with the Foo Fighters yesterday on the Paladium channel. Foo fighters drummer was lead singer for the song, "Been a long time" with Dave Grohl on drums. They killed it!

Rock on with that new gear, bro!

Eh, the Kodak is the only 35mm camera I'm likely to own. I have the 28 1.8 also, so not quite the classic 35/50/85 trio, but pretty close. I picked up the 65mm for the C3 from Wes today. Going to find a 180 as well. Then I'll look at a few things, maybe stuff to setup a darkroom or maybe I'll invest in some more homebrewing equipment.

Sounds like something I'm going to have to look out for. They rerun things pretty often. I've seen the Foo Fighters live a few times, and they always put on a great show.

That's cool. I have 28-50-85 and 35-50-90. Twice.
Alas, only zoom lenses for the EOS stable.
