Question Lens Rental Websites and Lens Selection - 04-18-2011, 05:26 PM

Hi all,

I am looking to rent a few things to try out before I decide on a lens to purchase (as I am fairly new to photography, I have little experience with many types of lenses still).

Can any of you recommend a good website to rent from that is also pretty cost-effective? I'm considering renting online instead of locally because I have a daytime job and it's hard for me to get over to pick up lenses.

Also as a side note, a few of the lenses I am looking into are:
- Nikkor 20mm f/2.8D AF Lens
- Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 AF-S Lens
- Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D AF Lens

(I currently own the standard 18-55mm/F3.5-5.6 that came with my camera and a 55-200mm/F4-5.6 zoom)

If anyone has any advice or info to share about any of the above lenses or places to rent them, please do let me know. I shoot a wide variety of things, so anything from portraits and wildlife to landscapes and architecture.

Thanks in advance!

I've rented from LensRentals.com - Rent Canon, Nikon, Olympus, or Sony Lenses a few times and have been happy with the service. I can't really comment on any others, except that when I did some comparison shopping they all seemed to be pretty similarly priced.

I know Fort Worth Camera rent (not sure about deposit, prices, etc):

http://www.fortworthcamera.com/rental-services.html

and you could always try: http://www.competitivecameras.com/rentals.htm

They are just up from the arts district, which means you can always take in a gallery or five while you are there.

Atsrentals.com doesnt have quite the selection of some others but they have a killer deal where you rent Friday through Monday and only get charged one day.

Thanks everyone for the great responses! Brad, I will def look into Atsrentals.com - the place locally has a similar deal, you just can't beat that one-day weekend charge! =)
