To buy or not to buy - 04-28-2011, 09:35 PM

That is the question.

While I LOVE my 5DM2, sometimes you just want/need a camera that you can slip in your pocket and go. For the last 8,9 months I have been pondering what might feel right in my pocket. Being the Canon whore I am of course I began with the Canon line.

Most all reviews I read when in comparison to other P and S cameras put Canon in the lead as far as image quality and camera features.

So deeper I dig into the Canon line and come to the the S95. 10Meg and it shoots RAW. Has a fully manual mode and fits very nicely in the pocket.

So I have read lots of reviews and its very hard to find many bad things said about this camera. So what say you, of the 25,000 members here there must be at least one that has or has used the S95.

Tell me what you think about it.

Thanks

We have a G10 and a S90.

Both are fine cameras.

The S90 is much smaller. It can be difficult to hold with one hand. There is an aftermarket grip that helps quite a bit.

It does have a great LCD on the back.

I have a G11 and a S95... I love my S95 for when I do not want to carry my 5DMkII. The f2 lens is awesome, I do a lot of nice handheld flashless shots, and the IQ is great for a PS. I say get it, the HD video is awesome from the camera....

I was impressed when I used it. I liked it better than the G series just because it was so compact, which is weird coming from a person who uses a NEX-5 as their compact.

Well, trigger pulled. Got the S95 a 8gig extremeIII card and an extra battery. Used my rewards points and only laid out 270.00 bucks total...

Your next purchase should be Richard Franiec’s Custom Grip.

Makes the camera much easier to hold. You can even operate it with one hand.

Im only 5'-6" I have small hands. I saw that grip but not sure I would like having the camera in my pocket with that on it. Although it doesnt look like it sticks out past the function ring

You are correct. It does not stick out past the function ring.

Get your camera and then you will see why its handy.....

Got my S95 today, only played with it for about an hour and I love this little camera already. The manual mode and the ability to customize buttons makes it very easy to use as a fully manual camera. It fits in my pocket VERY nicely. I was afraid the function ring was going to make it too thick but that is not the case.

I have to say, jury is still out on the image quality. All the shots I have taken so far are soft. I am sure I am spoiled by my L glass and FF sensor but so far I am not impressed.

I am unbuying this. Goes back as soon as I get the return label.

Very disappointed in the IQ after reading hundreds of reviews that talked about how great it was.
