it's the class 6 SD card that's causing the slowdown. I use the adapter with a class 8 SD card and I've never waited that long even after filling the buffer (50d, RAW files).

I have used 8gb SanDisk forever and had a Kingston fail on me. No issues with SanDisk.

As far as a card crash....the best thing to go is STOP USING IT. Put it asside and mark it as dead....warranty it immediatly. If there are shots on it, either get a recovery program and do it yourself, post up and a few beers will get a fix, or send it to a service like ontrack. Your pictures are there...there usually is a issue between the card and computer. A recovery program works like a translator between the 2.
