More Than Megapixels - IQ180

Reichmann took one of the first production models out into the field.

If your print sizes are less than about 18X24" you might not need an 80 Megapixel back, and an IQ160 or IQ140 might do the trick and save you some considerable coin.

Hasselblad also announced a new "budget" camera. "Only" 31mp. But. They are 16 bit megapixels.

PhaseOne IQ 180 Field Review

Dubovoy's review. He shims his on an ALPA.

I do not believe I have ever experienced a capture device that comes close to the dynamic range of this back. I would suggest to the reader to not just look at the Dynamic Range specification. There is much more to Dynamic Range than just a number. Seeing actual images capturing essentially noise-free deep shadows all the way to the brightest highlights in extremely contrasty scenes is truly remarkable. The ISO 35 setting is the best in this regard.

4.Outstanding color accuracy. Although I have not had the time to make a large number of tests, based on dozens of shots taken outdoors, as well as some shots of the famous Gretag MacBeth Color Checker, my PRELIMINARY conclusion is that the color accuracy of the IQ 180 might be the best I have ever tested.

Pentax is 1/4 the price of the IQ180 back alone. I am working on the 645D now. I figured out how to get almost 1/2 relatively easily by selling other camera gear.

Now you're talking! Let me know when you get it and you can join our local Pentaxian gathering in June (heck, you can come anyway). You'd be the star of the show if you had a 645D to show off. (You may be the star of the show anyway, for all I know.)

Kodak used to do this, and lower. When they quit the 35mm camera business, slow ISO disappeared. We want SLOW ISO and we want it NOW!

Alright Wayne! I'll send you a note. I'm thinking of putting something together in mid-late June, one Sunday afternoon in the Clear Lake area. Make sure you bring a bunch of your old Pentax lenses so we can try them out.
