I've added the TS-E 24mm MkI to my camera bag this week and plan on using it for landscapes mostly as well as architecture. Should I reconfigure the lens so the tilt and shift are put in the same plane? Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated, too. This thing is quite different... still waiting for the ah ha moment where it gels as to what I am doing. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. You've been a busy shopper lately. Enjoy.
Rise and fall will be the easiest to see the "Ah Ha" moment. You can set the camera up level and then move the lens up or down to include stuff that would otherwise be cut off.

I really wish I had the lens on my trip to Big Bend. Had a lot of time (and mountains) to play with. I have to cram over the next 3 days on how to use the lens as I would like to take it with me to Utah. In order to not ruin everything, I plan on using it there only after getting my primary shots with a traditional lens.
Luckily the shopping has been more selling then buying. A little easier on the wallet this way.

Don't change shift and tilt to the same plane until you know whether or not until you know what you will be doing more of, landscape or architecture.
The standard orientation is best (my opinion) for landscapes as it allows you to use the shift feature to create a pano while taking advantage of the tilt for increased DOF.
I have changed mine so that both shift and tilt are in the same orientation. For Architecture and group shoots; I find this allows me to have more DOF for a given f/stop and allows me to use the shift function to control the amount of foreground and sky. It also forces me to use my tripod head when shooting a pano with it.

The best thing for the 24mm lens is a full frame camera.
I know. I sound like a stuck record. But it's true.

It would work nicely on my Elan IIE and EOS-1.

I'll probably pick up a 5D Mk II when the 5D Mk III comes out and the price drops. I would like to have a full frame camera body matched more in line with the 7D. The live view has been a really nice improvement.

Tilt/Shift and live view are perfect together. Almost like having a view camera.

Is this right....
If I want tall mountains / perspective control and be able to increase front to back DOF, changing the orientation is better?
If I want the abilty to do panoramas and increase front to back DOF, the original configuration is OK?

Jennifer,
I modified all of my T/S lenses to T and S in the same direction. I just don't do enough panos to justify having the shift side-to-side. I prefer the shift to shift up and down while my tilt is in the forward/back plane. But that's just me.
I figured it I want to do a pano... and I can just use my pano head and get "good enough".
Congrats on the purchase!
