I know the D7000 is supposed to be a better camera but for IQ is the D7000 better? Why is it? Say they have the same lens.

Better hardware? It won't be a noticeable difference unless you're a pixel peeper, the D3100 should put out great images, the D7000 will just have more megapixel, more camera features in general

Depends on who's taking the pics? :)

They should both take great pics but the question for the 7000 is do you want/need the extra features. Now with the D5000 I wish I had the features of the D90/D7000 including the built-in focus motor, commander mode and high-speed sync.

If you're shooting night time/lowlight, high iso, video, get the d7000

IQ wise @ base ISO w/same lens, you aren't going to tell the difference between a D3100, D5100, D7000 and D700 at 25% view.

I love my d7000 , its great for low light and action shots . I shoot alot in areans and sports indoor and this guy will getting it done .
